Recipe-Clipper is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your information.
1. Data We Collect
We collect the minimum data necessary to provide our service:
- Email address: Used for account authentication and important service communications.
- Saved recipes: Recipe data you choose to save to your personal cookbook, including title, ingredients, instructions, images, and source URL.
- Usage data: Number of recipe saves to enforce subscription limits and improve our service.
- Personal notes: Optional notes you add to recipes (premium feature).
- Waitlist email: If you sign up for browser support notifications, we store your email address.
- AI assistant conversations: If you use Prep It (our AI cooking assistant), your chat messages are processed by AI providers to generate responses. Server-funded conversations use Anthropic's Claude. If you bring your own API key, your messages are sent to your chosen provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google).
- User-provided API keys: If you choose to use your own AI provider key with Prep It, it is encrypted at rest using AES-256-GCM before storage and never logged or shared.
- MCP server connections: If you connect third-party AI applications via our MCP server, we store OAuth tokens and track which permissions you've granted. These tokens can be revoked at any time from your profile page.
2. How We Use Your Data
Your data is used solely to provide and improve Recipe-Clipper:
- Authenticate your account and maintain your session
- Store, sync, and display your saved recipes across devices
- Enforce usage limits based on your subscription tier
- Send important service updates and security notifications
- Improve the recipe extraction accuracy and user experience
3. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties.
We do not share your data for advertising purposes.
Chrome Web Store Compliance: The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
This extension is also available on Firefox Add-ons and Microsoft Edge Add-ons, and complies with each platform's data handling requirements.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your data is stored securely using industry-standard practices:
- Hosted on Supabase infrastructure with PostgreSQL database
- Encryption at rest and in transit (TLS/SSL)
- Row-level security ensuring you can only access your own data
- Regular security audits and updates
5. Your Rights
You have full control over your data:
- Access: View all your saved recipes and account information in the app.
- Export: Request a copy of all your data by contacting support.
- Delete: Delete individual recipes from your cookbook, or delete your entire account and all associated data from your profile page.
- Correct: Update your email address or recipe notes at any time.
6. Third-Party Services
We use the following trusted third-party services:
- Supabase: Authentication and database hosting.Privacy Policy
- Stripe: Payment processing for premium subscriptions. Your payment information is handled directly by Stripe and never stored on our servers.Privacy Policy
- Claude API (Anthropic): AI-powered recipe extraction and Prep It conversations (server-funded mode). We send only the webpage content for extraction and chat messages for Prep It — no personal data beyond your conversation is sent.Privacy Policy
- Firecrawl: Social media recipe extraction. When importing recipes from TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, or Pinterest, the URL is sent to Firecrawl for JavaScript-rendered page scraping.
- Resend: Email delivery for account communications and notifications.Privacy Policy
7. Prep It (AI Assistant) Data Handling
Prep It is an optional AI cooking assistant. When you use it:
- Your chat messages are sent to a third-party AI provider to generate responses. Server-funded conversations use Anthropic's Claude. If you bring your own API key, messages are sent to your chosen provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, or Google).
- Conversation history is stored in our Supabase database so you can return to previous chats. You can delete any conversation at any time.
- If you provide your own API key, it is encrypted using AES-256-GCM before storage. Your key is never logged, transmitted in plaintext to our servers, or shared with any party other than your chosen AI provider. You can delete your key at any time from your profile page.
- We do not use your Prep It conversations to train AI models or for any purpose other than generating your response.
8. Cookies and Local Storage
We use minimal cookies and local storage:
- Authentication cookies: To maintain your logged-in session.
- Browser local storage: To temporarily store extracted recipes before saving.
We do not use tracking cookies or third-party analytics.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by email or through a notice in the app. Your continued use of Recipe-Clipper after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
